Composed of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point, the Piedmont Triad is a 12-county region in central North Carolina with a population of 1,768,836. The region is anchored by one major university per city – UNC Greensboro (Greensboro), Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem), and High Point University (High Point). There are approximately 900,000 jobs in the Piedmont Triad, and all 3 cities comprising the triad are among the state’s 10 most populous cities. The region is highly educated, with 13 colleges and universities representing over 60,000 students. Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) is a 4,000-acre campus and is home to more than 50 companies and 8,600 jobs. The airport is also at the center of recruiting new businesses to the area. The Innovation Quarter, located in the eastern part of downtown Winston-Salem, includes over 330 acres of land representing roughly $900 million in private and public investment and had an economic impact of $1.66 billion 2022. Innovation Quarter is home to 90 companies and 3,600+ jobs. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, Cone Health, and Novant Health provide over 3,360 hospital beds to the area. Two major companies, Reynolds American and HanesBrands, are both headquartered in Winston-Salem. Other notable employers include Toyota, Volvo, and Wells Fargo. The Piedmont Triad is home to 599 multifamily properties and 98,426 units and a development pipeline of 4,633 additional units.
