Located 85 miles northeast of Memphis and 130 miles southwest of Nashville, Jackson is a 4-county MSA with a population of 181,579. Pulling from 9 total counties, the Jackson regional workforce is 300,000 people. Major existing and target industries include Advanced Food Processing (Kellogg), Automotive Suppliers (TBDN, Toyota Boshoku Tennessee), Customer Care Centers (Kirkland’s, Stanley Black and Decker), and Logistics (Kirkland’s). West Tennessee Healthcare, highlighted by its flagship 642-bed Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, is the largest employer in the MSA with 7,000 jobs.
The 120-acre Tiger Jones Technology Park in Jackson is the first site in Tennessee to be designated as an Enterprise Site. Recent activity at the site includes a 36-acre land sale to Great Wolf Lodge, a resort that is expected to create around 500 jobs. Union University and Jackson State Community College combine for an enrollment of over 7,000. Additional universities in the area include Freed-Hardemann, Lane College, and the University of Memphis Lambuth Campus.
