J.M. Smucker opened its $1.1 billion manufacturing plant in McCalla

J.M. Smucker Co. held a grand opening for its new 900,000-square-foot plant in McCalla, roughly 20 miles southeast of Birmingham. The company announced that the new plant’s construction and production would create up to 700 jobs. The McCalla plant is the largest single-line bakery in the country and will produce Smucker’s Uncrustables snacks. According to the company, Uncrustables is become one of the company’s fastest growing brands and is on pace to deliver $1 billion in annual net sales by the end of the company’s fiscal year 2026.

EBSCO proposes massive mixed-use development for Tattersall Park

EBSCO is currently planning a roughly 18-acre development for an undeveloped parcel along Alabama Highway 119 near the U.S. Highway 280 intersection. EBSCO is requesting to rezone the property to mixed-used development, which would allow a residential component. With the current zoning, retail, hotel, and other commercial development wouldn’t need approval.

The Birmingham Airport is celebrating two new non-stop flights                      

Southwest Airlines introduced a non-stop flight from Birmingham to Phoenix, AZ and from Birmingham to Nashville, TN. Airport officials say the new flights come at a time when traffic is growing at a rapid pace. Year to date, total traffic at the Birmingham Airport has increased by 7 percent with the trend expected to continue. Amid growth, the airport is looking at further expansion to Concourse CF and parking capabilities.

Alabama is the No. 16 growth state in the U.S., according to U-Haul data.

According to U-Haul, Alabama has been a net-gain state, with more one-way U-Haul arrivals than departures, each of the past three years, and five of the last six years. The state rose six spots from its 2023 ranking.
